Length

The New York City Police Academy prepares this firearms discharge assault report on the basis of statistics provided by uniformed members of the service and narrative reports provided by supervisory personnel. The report analyzes the statistics and identifies patterns, trends, and possible police hazards that allow the department to structure appropriate training courses to address current conditions.
Abstract
Following an overview of the statistics, the report details the total number of incidents by month, day of week, tour, borough, and number of officers involved; other factors included in this set of analyses include number of perpetrators, ethnicity of perpetrators, and number of people arrested. Other sections tabulate statistics on incidents by precinct of occurrence, weapons used or possessed by perpetrators, weapons used by police officers, gunfights, and deaths and injuries. A separate section details incidents involving Glock 19 firearms. The report also includes sections on accidental discharges and nonlethal weapons incidents. 10 figures
