The positive, imaginative, and innovative recreation programs described in this volume represent a sampling of some of the creative alternatives to gang membership now available to Texas youth.
Abstract
Programs for youth in Texas offer a wide range of recreational activities including team sports, teen dances and parties, craft projects, and opportunities for arts enrichment. This sampling outlines programs in the Texas cities of Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Abilene, Amarillo, Lubbock, and McAllen. These programs, not necessarily gang prevention programs per se, offer children and adolescents companionship, acceptance, and excitement as well as leadership opportunities.
