THIS DOCUMENT DESCRIBES THE CONCEPT, NEEDS, AND RATIONALE OF THE GMIS, AND REVIEWS THE INITIAL PHASE OF PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT AND THE PROTOTYPE SYSTEM.
Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THE GMIS IS TO ASSIST LEAA IN SETTING PROGRAM TARGETS AND GOALS BY PROVIDING A DATA BASE ON GRANT ACTIVITY AND BY MAINTAINING GRANT INFORMATION; TO PROVIDE A SYSTEMATIC APPROACH FOR EVALUATING PROGRESS TOWARDS THOSE GOALS; AND TO ASSIST LEAA IN THE EXERCISE OF ITS FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES. AMONG THE SPECIFIC AREAS DISCUSSED IN THIS PRESENTATION ARE THE GMIS FUNCTIONS, EXPECTED RESULTS OF GMIS, THE SCOPE OF GMIS, AND THE TECHNICAL APPROACH TAKEN IN DESIGNING THE GRANT MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM. ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF THE GMIS, SUCH AS THE APPLICATION AND REPORTING FORMS, THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL, AND THE GRANT CLASSIFICATION DICTIONARY ARE DESCRIBED. AN INPUT EXAMPLE, RETRIEVAL EXAMPLE, AND DESCRIPTION OF THE REPORTS PRODUCTION ARE ALSO PROVIDED.
