The FBI Laboratory's Scientific Working Group for Forensic Document Examination presents its Guideline for Quality Assurance and Proficiency Testing.
Abstract
The purpose of the guideline is to identify procedures necessary to provide adequate confidence that forensic document examiners meet and maintain minimum levels of quality in forensic document examinations. It describes the quality assurance requirements and procedures that forensic document examiners must follow in order to ensure the quality and integrity of their work in forensic document examinations. Requirements of the guideline are presented under the following topics: management, qualifications and training, item control and chain of custody, analytical procedures, equipment and chemicals, documentation, reports and administrative reviews, technical or peer review, court testimony, proficiency tests, validation of research and development of new procedures, and corrective actions. A glossary of terms used in the guideline is provided. 1 reference
