Abstract
This fact sheet from the Bureau of Justice Assistance presents information on the Harold Rogers Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP). The goal of the Harold Rogers PDMP is to increase the efficiency of these types of programs to allow for the early detection of abuse and possible sources of diversion. The Harold Rogers PDMP also seeks to build a data collection and analysis system at the State level to enhance existing programs' ability to 1) analyze and use collected data; 2) facilitate the exchange of collected prescription data between States; and 3) assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the programs that have been funded under this program. Previous research has shown that PDMPs can be effective at reducing the supply and abuse of prescription drugs and that States with PDMPs have noticeably lower rates of supply of prescription drugs compared to States without PDMPs.
