This Fiscal Year 2005-2006 Annual Report of the Hawaii Police Department contains data and information on the agency's activities for the year.
Abstract
The year saw increased recruitment efforts by the department that put 16 new patrol officers on the street. A cadet training program was developed for implementation during the next fiscal year. Two new police dogs were trained to track missing children and suspects. Another added personnel resource during the year was a grant-funded, full-time coordinator for the Impaired Driving Task Force, whose mission is to reduce the number of drivers who are under the influence of drugs and alcohol. In the area of traffic enforcement, the department conducted a pilot project that used an unmarked vehicle equipped with blue lights above the rearview mirror and on the back deck. The project was so successful in detecting high-risk drivers that the department obtained grant monies for additional vehicles with these features. The new computerized Records Management System that began during the previous fiscal year was expanded to include the electronic registration of firearms. The department's efforts in community policing are described, along with the activities of the following departmental divisions: Internal Affairs/Criminal Investigation Unit, the Administrative Bureau, the Criminal Investigations Division, the Traffic Enforcement Unit, and operations bureaus. Information and data are provided on patrol districts, recorded offenses, personnel changes, and the budget.
