In this study, Raman spectroscopy and chemometric modeling were used to analyze smokeless powder extracted from ammunition cartridge cases.

Abstract

The proposed hierarchical model demonstrated great potential for determining the manufacturer and the bullet type based on the analysis of smokeless powder. Expanding the developed approach to the analysis of OGSR will be needed to make it a useful tool for law enforcement agencies. Raman spectroscopy is a vibrational spectroscopic technique that is fast emerging as an important analytical method in the field of forensic science. In recent years, Raman spectroscopy has proven advantageous for the investigation of a wide variety of forensic evidence types. (Publisher abstract provided)
