Abstract
This manual provides a comprehensive review of probation and parole in Pennsylvania including an introduction to the field of probation and parole, the constitutional and statutory framework of probation and parole, types of probation and parole, the role of the sentencing court, a description of the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, the probation and parole release decisionmaking processes, the conditions of probation and parole, supervision of probationers and parolees, the arrest and detention of violators, probable cause hearings and detainers, revocation hearings and evidence used in the revocation process, sanctions for violations, administrative remedies, and judicial review. Also included are copies of forms used in common pleas courts, suggested forms for use before the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, provisions of the Pennsylvania Sentencing Code, the Parole Act of 1941, and other pertinent Pennsylvania statutes and rules, sentencing guidelines, regulations of the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole, and a glossary of commonly used terms of art.
