The number of willful homicide victims in California for each 100,000 population grew from 8.9 in 1973 to 11.2 in 1982, an increase of 25.8 percent. More persons were killed on the weekend than on other days, and more victims were killed at their places of residence than in other locations.
Abstract
Firearms killed more people than all other types of weapons combined. A total of 29 charts and 59 tables present data on violent crimes, willful homicide crimes, arrests for murder, and justifiable homicides by peace officers and private citizens. Indicated are the number of victims in the context of rate per 100,000 population; the relation of homicide crimes to other violent crimes; the personal characteristics of the victim and the interrelationship of these characteristics; and the relationship between sex, race/ethnic group, and age of the victim and the homicide rate, victim-offender relationship, time of incident, location of incident, type of weapon, and circumstance contributing to the homicide incident.
