This report emphasizes the progress achieved in the activities carried out by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), the regional institutes for the prevention of crime and the treatment of offenders, and other associated institutes cooperating with the UN Secretariat in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice.
Abstract
This networks serves as a link between the UN and countries in different regions, keeping each party informed of developments in these areas and promoting interregional, regional, and subregional cooperation. The network is also seeking to develop its capacity to serve as a clearinghouse or international information center for criminal justice agencies, organizations, and individuals. UNICRI is active in comparative research, training, technical cooperation, library and documentation services, and publication and dissemination services. Other institutions which participate in similar activities include the Asia and Far East, Latin American and Caribbean, and African Institutes for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders, and the Helsinki Institute for Crime Prevention and Control. Other associated organizations, whose activities are reported here, include the Arab Security Studies and Training Center, the Australian Institute of Criminology, and the International Center for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy.
