Abstract
THE CODEBOOK WAS BASED ON A STUDY OF 92 RANDOMLY SELECTED CALIFORNIA OFFENDERS CONDUCTED BETWEEN 1968 AND 1973 AS A PILOT FOR FUTURE CONSTRUCTION OF CRIMINAL, SOCIAL, AND ECONOMIC PROFILES FOR A SAMPLE OF 2000 OFFENDERS IN CALIFORNIA. EACH INDIVIDUAL'S DATA WAS CODED ON THE SERIES OF 8, 72-CHARACTER CARD IMAGES. THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS INCLUDED: AGE, SEX, RACE, EDUCATION, INTELLIGENCE QUOTIENT, TYPE OF OFFENSE, DISPOSITION, WAGES, INCOME, OTHER ASSETS, EMPLOYMENT RECORD, LOCATION, AND OTHER ARRESTS. THREE METHODS ARE USED TO PRESENT SUBSETS OF THE BASIC DATA SET. FIRST, DATA IS DISPLAYED FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER STARTING AT AGE ZERO. SECOND, DATA IS PRESENTED BY OFFENSE. THIRD, GENERAL INFORMATION IS GIVEN FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL FOLLOWED BY THE INDIVIDUAL'S ARREST AND OFFENSE RECORDS. A SAMPLE CODED OFFENDER PROFILE, SUMMARIES OF INFORMATION USED IN THE PILOT DATA SET, AND APPENDIXES OF DRUG CODES AND OFFENSE CLASSIFICATIONS ARE INCLUDED. (CFW)
