This document is a compilation of existing tools for use in assessing victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) and sexual violence (SV) in healthcare settings.
The primary goals of this compilation are to 1) provide practitioners and clinicians with the most current inventory of assessment tools for determining IPV and/or SV victimization, and 2) to supply information on the psychometric properties of these instruments in order to ensure the appropriateness of their use with the given population. The following information, when available, is provided for each screening instrument: instrument characteristic; administration method; scoring procedures; follow-up procedures; populations studied; psychometric properties, including reliability, validity, specificity, and sensitivity; the authors who developed the instrument; and any recent articles published at the same time as this document that discuss the screening instrument. Only screening instruments that were used for clinical purposed and contained 20 items or fewer were considered for inclusion in this document. All instruments that were selected for inclusion were evaluated by a panel of expert clinicians and researchers working in the field of sexual and/or intimate partner violence prevention. Uses and limitations of the instruments are discussed.
