This annual report describes the participation of the New York State Department of Corrections in the Job Training Partnership Act (JPTA) Summer Youth Employment Program in 1991; under the program, eligible persons younger than 22 receive work experience and are trained in a number of pre- employment and work maturity skills.
Abstract
While there was a steady decline in the number of participants in the program between 1987 and 1989, the 1990 program year resulted in the highest number of participants (81) since its inception in 1984; the 1991 registration remained steady at 76. The earlier low levels of participation were attributed to Federal cutbacks in the program and other opportunities for youth employment. Nineteen State facilities participated in the program, a decrease from 25 in 1990. About 93 percent of the youth successfully completed the program, mostly working in clerical training positions. 6 tables and 2 figures
