The Judicial Commission of New South Wales submitted this report to the Attorney General to highlight its activities for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1992.
Abstract
The mission of the Judicial Commission is to conduct research and educational programs for the judiciary, advise the Attorney General, and investigate complaints against judicial officers. During this year, the Sentencing Information System was augmented through the addition of a statistical component for the New South Wales Children's Court. A new feature, the Sentencing Appeal Cases Database, was added to the system. The commission conducted extensive research on the impact of truth in sentencing in both higher and lower courts, and the affect of the Sentencing Act 1989 on cases involving juveniles. The report describes specific achievements in the areas of sentencing, judicial education, conferences and training, complaints against judicial officers, liaison, and support services. The report of the Chief Executive covers employment conditions, principal officers, performance management, risk management, staff development, and overseas visits. 3 appendixes
