The U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Justice held hearings on the status of juvenile courts, with a view toward developing proposals to include in the reauthorization of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act.
Abstract
The first panel of witnesses included several juvenile court judges who testified on the day-to-day functioning of the juvenile courts and their facilities. The second panel consisted of several academics and advocates with extensive experience in research and litigating cases on behalf of children and juvenile justice, mental health, foster care, and health and education systems. They testified on ways in which access to the juvenile justice system can be enhanced. The final panel included juvenile justice practitioners and advisors.
