Crime Index offenses in 1980 increased by 11.9 percent over 1979, from 112,539 to 125,877.
Abstract
Violent crimes increased by 11.4 percent, from 8,172 in 1979 to 9,107 in 1980. Property crimes increased by 11.9 percent over 1979, from 104,367 to 116,770. In addition, there were 1,313 arsons. The value of stolen property in 1980 was $54,265,504. Arrests in 1980 totaled 75,567, an increase of 6.8 percent over 1979. One law enforcement officer was killed in the line of duty, and 1,244 nonfatal assaults occurred on law enforcement offices, a decrease of 3.6 percent from the previous year. A total of 4,947 individuals were employed by law enforcement agencies during the year. Tables, figures, maps, and a glossary are provided.
