This training and procedural manual for U.S. Army military law enforcement focuses on conducting systematic inquiries, obtaining and recording information and testimonial evidence, obtaining and recording physical evidence, and processing crime scenes and investigating offenses.
Abstract
Chapters that describe how to conduct systematic inquiries address the investigator's purview and surveillance, undercover, and task force operations. Four chapters pertain to obtaining and recording information and testimonial evidence. They discuss notes, photographs, and sketches; observations, descriptions, and identifications; interviews and interrogations; and sources. The five chapters that address the obtaining and recording of physical evidence encompass fingerprints, casts and molds, firearms and ammunition, glass fractures and fragments, and trace evidence. Fourteen chapters provide information on the processing of crime scenes and the investigation of particular offenses. Investigative procedures at the crime scene cover preserving the scene, searching the scene, processing and collecting the evidence, and preserving the evidence. Investigative techniques and procedures are described for offenses that involve drugs; larceny; burglary, housebreaking, and unlawful entry; assault; robbery; sex offenses; death; arson; questioned documents; fraud against the government; counterfeiting; black marketing; and war crimes.
