Abstract
THIS REPORT DEALS ONLY WITH MANUAL SYSTEMS, SINCE AUTOMATIC DATA PROCESSING SYSTEMS WILL VARY ACCORDING TO EQUIPMENT USED AND PROGRAMS ADOPTED. THE INDIVIDUAL ELEMENTS OF A PERSONNEL RECORDS SYSTEM ARE LISTED AND A BRIEF DISCUSSION OF EACH IS PROVIDED. THESE ELEMENTS INCLUDE BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS, PERSONAL INFORMATION, PERSONAL HEALTH, ATTENDANCE SUMMARY, PAYROLL-FRINGE BENEFIT RECORDS, TRAINING AND EDUCATION, COMMENDATIONS, COMPLAINTS, ACCIDENTS, AND EVALUATIONS, AND INTERNAL INVESTIGATIONS. THE AUTHOR STATES THAT SEVERAL, IF NOT EACH, OF THE ELEMENTS LISTED SHOULD BE FILED, STORED, OR MANAGED SEPARATELY. SAMPLE FORMS, INCLUDING A BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION CHECKLIST, PERSONAL INFORMATION SUMMARY RECORD OF EQUIPMENT ISSUED, EMPLOYEE ATTENDANCE SUMMARY, AND CONTINUING LOG OF TRAINING AND EDUCATION ARE INCLUDED. FILING METHODS, INCLUDING SINGLE FILE, DIVIDED FILE, AND SEPARATE CONFIDENTIAL FILE SYSTEMS ARE DISCUSSED.
