Because police requirements for civil defense emergencies may substantially exceed regular police manpower, the Civil Defense Preparedness Agency has developed a course on law and order training for civil defense preparedness.
Abstract
The course is available to State and local governments for use in training law enforcement auxiliary personnel. It covers the National Civil Defense Program, the police and civil preparedness, the role of auxiliary police officers, and police- community relations. In addition, the manual includes sections on policies, procedures, and regulations pertinent to civil defense preparedness; basic law and arrest concepts; police traffic services; crowd and riot control; civil defense shelter duties; the protection of property and the prevention of looting; and modern weapons and radioactive fallout. Appendixes contain a code of ethics for law enforcement officers and a sample application for civil defense auxiliary police services. Figures
