A PRESENTATION OF BASELINE DATA ON MONROE COUNTY APPROPRIATIONS FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE.
Abstract
THIS PAPER PRESENTS BUDGET DATA FOR THREE POINTS IN TIME1960, 1972, AND 1973-FROM THIRTY-ONE LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN MONROE COUNTY, SHOWING FUNDS APPROPRIATED FOR LOCAL AGENCIES DIRECTLY INVOLVED WITH PROCESSING THE CRIMINAL OFFENDER. THE DATA INDICATE THAT ALTHOUGH LOCAL APPROPRIATIONS FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE ACTIVITIES HAVE QUADRUPLED FROM 1960 TO 1973, THE PROPORTION OF CRIMINAL JUSTICE APPROPRIATIONS TO TOTAL APPROPRIATIONS IS THE SAME TODAY AS IN 1960. AT THE SAME TIME, THE ANALYSIS SHOWS A SHARP INCREASE FROM 1972 TO 1973 IN THE PROPORTION OF TOTAL LOCAL APPROPRIATIONS EXPENDED FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
