The Great Britain Home Office presents its strategy for combating organized crime through coordinated action that encompasses entities ranging from local to international domains.
In order to set the context for the strategy, the report discusses the nature of the risk from organized crime and planning assumptions for the period up to 2015. The new strategy stems the opportunities for organized crime to become established; strengthens enforcement action against individuals involved in organized crime; and safeguards communities, businesses, and the state from organized crime. One of the activities designed to achieve progress toward these goals is to improve intelligence operations regarding the activities of organized crime. This will drive the operational response to organized crime. The law enforcement response to organized crime will be improved under the establishment of the National Crime Agency. Other means of implementing the strategy are to develop international cooperation, improve the approach to research and communications, and develop clear accountability structures that include indicators of the strategy's effectiveness. A full list of actions within the strategy is appended.
