EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS, DIAGRAMS, MANPOWER, AND COST DATA ARE GIVEN FOR A RADIO COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM TO SUPPORT THE LOS ANGELES, CALIF., POLICE DEPARTMENT EMERGENCY COMMAND AND CONTROL COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM.
Abstract
THE SYSTEM CONSISTS OF 21 RADIO CHANNELS IN THE ULTRA HIGH FREQUENCY (UHF) BAND. IT USES A SATELLITE RECEIVER NETWORK AND DISTRIBUTED TRANSMITTERS TO ALLOW OFFICERS TO LEAVE THEIR VEHICLES AND STILL HAVE EXCELLENT COMMUNICATIONS WITH EACH OTHER WHEN THEY ARE LOCATED WITHIN CLOSE RANGE, OR TO REPEAT THROUGH A MOUNTAINTOP STATION FOR WIDER AREA COVERAGE REQUIREMENTS. CHANNELS CAN ALSO BE SWITCHED FROM ONE GEOGRAPHICAL AREA TO ANOTHER WHEN ADDITIONAL RADIO CAPACITY IS NEEDED TEMPORARILY. THE DISTRIBUTED TRANSCEIVING SYSTEM CONSISTS OF 35 SITES THROUGHOUT THE CITY, EACH EQUIPPED WITH SATELLITE RECEIVERS. A CITYWIDE RECEIVING NET WILL USE ALL 35 SITES WHILE A BUREAU NET WILL HAVE FEWER FOR RESTRICTED GEOGRAPHICAL COVERAGE. THE SYSTEM ALSO HAS AN EMERGENCY, OR TRIGGER ALARM. THE REPORT IS DIVIDED INTO FOUR SECTIONS: TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ORGANIZATION, OPERATING PROCEDURES, FUNDING AND IMPLEMENTATION, AND POTENTIAL AREAS OF FUTURE DEVELOPMENT. IT CONTAINS SPECIFICATIONS, DIAGRAMS, TABLES, AND MANPOWER ESTIMATES AND COST DATA. THE SECOND VOLUME OF THE REPORT CONTAINS A SITE PLAN, TECHNICAL DIAGRAMS, AND SUPPORTING ENGINEERING MATERIALS. THE INTRODUCTORY SECTION OF THE REPORT CONTAINS A LIST OF SPECIFICATIONS, TECHNICAL DRAWINGS, AND TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS USED IN THE PREPARATION OF THIS PLAN. (GLR)
