Abstract
ADMINISTRATIVE TOPICS CONCERNING PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT, LEADERSHIP, SUPERVISION, AND INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION ARE TREATED. MATTERS RELATING TO THE HANDLING OF PRISONERS ARE DETAILED, BEGINNING WITH THE RECEIVING FUNCTION, CONTINUING THROUGH THE MANAGEMENT OF THE PRISONER'S CLOTHING AND PROPERTY, DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES, GENERAL SUPERVISION, AND INMATE PRIVILEGES, AND ENDING WITH THE DISCHARGING OPERATION. VARIOUS SECURITY CONSIDERATIONS SUCH AS THE CONTROL OF CONTRABAND, THE COUNTING OF PRISONERS, INMATE TRANSPORTATION, AND PLANS FOR EMERGENCY SITUATIONS ARE DISCUSSED. OTHER OPERATIONAL FACTORS OUTLINED ARE FOOD SERVICES, HEALTH SERVICES, AND SHORT-TIME TREATMENT PROGRAMS. THE MANUAL CONCLUDES WITH SEVERAL SECTIONS ON THE JAIL-COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP INCLUDING ASPECTS SUCH AS THE UTILIZATION OF COMMUNITY RESOURCES, COMMUNITY RELEASE PROGRAMS, AND PUBLIC RELATIONS.
