This document presents the updated regulations of the Maryland Police Training Commission for firearms training and instructor certification.
Abstract
The regulations presented apply to all firearms training regulated by the Police Training Commission and are minimum standards. Fourteen performance objectives are listed for all entry-level firearms training. Regulations are included for firing range courses, firearms instructors (instructor-student ratio), the submission of training data to the Police Training Commission, and entrance-level firearms training course requirements. Regulations are included for courses of fire for service handgun for entrance-level programs, as well as for shotgun and special weapons. Other regulations address annual firearms training and qualification, remedial training, and transitional training. Regulations pertinent to firearms instructors encompass minimum standards for firearms instructors, the duties and responsibilities of firearms instructors and line safety officers, and instructor certification requirements.
