A DESCRIPTION OF THE AGENCY ORGANIZATION AND ACTIVITIES, ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE BUREAU, AND GOALS FOR THE PERIOD OF AUGUST 1, 1974 TO JUNE 30, 1975.
Abstract
A RATIONALE FOR A YOUTH SERVICES BUREAU IN CHARLOTTE AND MECKLENBURG COUNTY IS FIRST PROVIDED. A SIGNIFICANT GOAL OF THE YOUTH SERVICES BUREAU (YSB) WAS TO PLAY AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN DIVERTING A SUBSTANTIAL NUMBER OF CHILDREN FROM THE JUVENILE COURT AND CORRECTIONAL SYSTEMS. THE VARIOUS PROFESSIONAL POSITIONS AT THE YSB AND THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF EACH POSITION ARE DESCRIBED. MEASURABLE OBJECTIVES OF THE AGENCY AND EVALUATION PROCEDURES FOR THE YSB ARE DETAILED. ALSO REPORTED ARE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS MADE BY THE MECKLENBURG YSB IN THE AREAS OF DIRECT SERVICES AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT. PROJECT GOALS INCLUDE OFFERING SERVICES TO A MINIMUM OF 350 CHILDREN INVOLVED OR ABOUT TO BECOME INVOLVED IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM, TO DIVERT 85 PERCENT OF THE YOUTH REFERRED TO THE YSB, TO COORDINATE A VOLUNTEER PROGRAM OF SERVICES FOR YSB CLIENTS, TO SPONSOR WORKSHOPS FOR PERSONNEL OF YOUTH SERVING AGENCIES, AND TO DEVELOP 'MODEL' PARENT, TEACHER, AND CHILD TRAINING COURSES TO IMPROVE BEHAVIORAL RESPONSES OF PERSONS IN THEIR ENVIRONMENT. VARIOUS FORMS USED BY THE YSB, A STAFF ORGANIZATIONAL CHART, REPORTS ON THE YSB, AND LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS CONCERNING YOUTHS ARE INCLUDED IN THE APPENDIXES.
