This thesaurus lists and presents code numbers for the nearly 6,000 terms used to index literature in the National Institute of Justice/NCJRS document database and to retrieve information about the literature for users of the service.
Abstract
The selection of terms is based on the vocabulary used in documents entering the National Criminal Justice Reference Service system, on the frequency of term usage in the literature, and on the language of the user community. The two types of terms listed are descriptors and synonyms or near synonyms. Some terms include scope notes, which define or limit the specific use of a term in the NCJRS system. Terms are presented in alphabetical order with broader terms, narrower terms, and related terms included for most entries. Lists of geographical and organizational descriptors, index, and cross-references.
