This publication describes the data collection procedures and presents the codebook for the files of a national survey of indigent defense programs operating in 1982.
Abstract
Data were collected via a questionnaire sent to a stratified sample of county officials in each State. Among variables examined were system type, funding sources, costs, and caseloads. The machine-readable codebook specifies the variable and variable number, code values of missing data, the full-text question, code value of the variable, and textual definition of the code. A variable description list also is provided. Appendixes contain cross tabulations and rank-order statistics for the study's three program levels: county level, preliminary program level, and conflict/unavailability program level.
