Abstract

This publication by the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) and Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) National Stakeholder Partnership (NSP) provides grantees with tips and advice for finding existing data. Recommended sources include county information from the National Association of Counties’ County Explorer and county health data compiled by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; census data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Fact Finder website; state vital statistics; state level data on overdose death counts from the Provisional Drug Overdose Death Counts posted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC); student substance use data from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS); and crime and victimization data from the FBI Crime Data Explorer (CDE) as well as from the “Easy Access to NIBRS” data tool of the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS).
