This description of the Nevada County Probation Department's (California) work release program details all aspects of the weekend program's administration and operations.
Abstract
This program permits qualified offenders sentenced to the Nevada County Jail on weekends to complete their commitment by participating on a weekend work crew supervised by the probation department. To qualify for the program, an offender must be sentenced to the jail on a weekend commitment for no more than 15 weekends, be sentenced to the jail on a short-term straight commitment for 30 days or less, or be sentenced to the jail on a long-term straight commitment with less than 30 days left to serve. Program participants report to the central worksite on Saturday and Sunday mornings and work for 8 hours each day. Participants must obey the program's rules and regulations and all instructions issued by the work crew supervisor. Participants must also pay an administrative fee of $15.00 per day or $30.00 per weekend in advance. Acceptance into the program is dependent on a satisfactory interview with the work release officer, the severity of the current offense, prior record, and a recommendation from jail personnel. Eight hours of work in the program will equal one 24-hour day of incarceration. Those who fail to pay fees, attend work, or cooperate within the guidelines of the program will be returned to jail, and appropriate sanctions will be invoked. Appended program forms
