This NIJ Notes From the Field details interoperable communications challenges facing first responders and public safety officials.

Abstract

This article from the National Institute of Justice's (NIJ) "Notes from the Field" series discusses interoperable communications challenges that continue to be one of the top national issues facing first responders and public safety officials. First responders depend on a seamless flow of voice, video, and data communications to guide their preparation and response to every event they are called to. For the planner and policy-maker, it stresses that, in order to support the emergency communications ecosystem in your jurisdiction, focus on planning in advance, developing relationships, and implementing new technology where appropriate.
