This report presents statistics on average inmate populations in New Jersey’s adult prisons and youth correctional facilities during fiscal year 2000.
Abstract
The average reported population includes the number of inmates at each of the six major institutions, as well as inmates assigned to each of the respective satellite units and prefabricated modular units. The total of 30,673 inmates included 4,383 State inmates in county facilities, 21,613 inmates in the adult prison complex, 145 offenders under electronic monitoring, 2,462 inmates in contract halfway houses, and 4,697 inmates in youth correctional institutions. The average total population increased 1 percent from fiscal 1999 to fiscal 2000. State inmates housed in county facilities increased 10 percent, the State prison complex count decreased 1 percent, the youth complex count decreased 1 percent, and the contract halfway house count increased 12 percent.
