Relevant statistics and information concerning the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council and Academy for 1979 are presented in this annual report.
Abstract
The academy is dedicated to providing quality instruction in advanced and technical subjects for the peace officers of Ohio. A total of 2,027 officers were awarded basic training certificates in 1979, a decline of 368 since 1978. A total of 1,044 certificates were earned by persons in private security, which is a decrease of 213 since last year. A total of 3,161 officers attended 177 training courses at the academy in 1979, a decrease of 124 from the previous year. This decrease is attributed to the unavailability of Federal funds to pay tuition for students from departments without such funds. Every county in Ohio had officers attend the academy, with the enrollment ranging from 1 officer in some counties to a high of 265 in another county. A calendar of events for 1979, a map, and graphic data are provided. (Author summary modified)
