This web page provides information on and online browsing access to the new I-Guides (short for Implementation Guides) provided by the U.S. Justice Department's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to be used in conjunction with its Model Programs Guide (MPG), which provides policymakers and practitioners with information on evidence-based juvenile justice and youth prevention, intervention, and reentry programs and practices.
Abstract
The I-Guides provide MPG users with information on 10 steps that should be taken in the pre-implementation stage for a model program, i.e., before identifying or implementing an evidence-based program or practice. The 10 steps are based on the research literature on successful implementation efforts in addressing common problems in juvenile justice and related fields. The I-Guides provide communities tips and action-oriented recommendations regarding the problems they are facing, identification of the best solutions, and providing the foundation for promoting implementation of these solutions. The 10 steps are organized under three general categories: Start, Support, and Secure. The steps under the "Start" category relate to building a strong foundation before implementing an evidence-based intervention. The steps in the "Support" category pertain to putting a program or practice into place in the regular operations of an agency. Steps in the "Secure" category relate to stabilizing and sustaining the evidence-based program or practice within the community or jurisdiction. Users of this web page can browse the I-Guides.
