This document presents the text of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, together with the amendments of 1970, 1973, 1974, 1976, 1979, 1984, 1986, 1988, and 1990.
Abstract
The law is designed to assist State and local governments in reducing the incidence of crime; to increase the effectiveness, fairness, and coordination of law enforcement and criminal justice systems at all levels of government; and for other purposes. Individual sections cover the Office of Justice Programs, the National Institute of Justice, other agencies, grants, criminal justice facility construction, penalties, death benefits for families of law enforcement officers, and regional information sharing. An appendix contains related statutory provisions and notes on other programs administered by the Office of Justice Programs of the United States Department of Justice.
