This brief document provides a detailed listing of discretionary grant projects and programs, and other resources, as part of a collaborative approach to help ensure that jurisdictions have access to expertise and resources to address community violence.

Abstract

This publication is the product of a collaborative approach between the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), to ensure that jurisdictions have access to expertise and resources that allow them to adequately address community violence. The discretionary grant projects and programs described, with links, include the Community Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative, which has helped fund: The Black Mental Health Alliance; BOSS (Building Opportunities for Self-Sufficiency); Harris County, Texas, Public Health Department’s Community Health and Violence Prevention Services (CHVPS); Jersey Shore University Medical Center; the Kansas City, Missouri, Health Department’s Aim4Peace Program (A4P); Council Against Youth Violence (CAYV); and Roca, a program focusing on youth at the center of urban violence. Other initiatives detailed in the document include: Advancing Hospital-Based Victim Services and the National Center for Culturally Responsive Victim Services. Resources described include: The Vicarious Trauma Toolkit; Model Standards for Serving Victims and Survivors of Crime; and VOCA Victim Assistance Funds May Support Community Violence Intervention Efforts.
