This report discusses results from the 2019 report Painting the Current Picture: A National Report on Treatment Courts in the United States.

Abstract

The 2019 report Painting the Current Picture: A National Report on Treatment Courts in the United States concludes that treatment court team members should participate in conversations about addressing the needs of individuals in their programs. The report presents national data on this issue and concludes that treatment courts should examine drug of use trends by race/ethnicity and gender, with specific attention to treatment modalities available to participants. Programs should provide access to clinical treatment and recovery support services known to be effective in meeting the needs of the target population. The report also recommends additional research on the effectiveness of treatment court programs with individuals reporting stimulant, opioid, and poly drug use disorders. The report outlines three areas to be addressed: data collection and management needs, treatment court equity and inclusion, and enhanced focus on stimulants as drugs of use and concern. This report provides background on the issue, discusses relevance for treatment court stakeholders, and makes suggestions for improvement.
