This manual is designed to provide a concise summary of the procedures used in relation to the psychotherapeutic treatment provided to inmates at the Patuxent Institution in Maryland.
Abstract
The manual is intended for use as an introductory reference for treatment staff members at the institution. Introductory sections outline the organizational structure, the duties of administrators and unit chairpeople, and the chain of command for administration and treatment. Further sections explain the roles of psychology, social work, psychiatry, and the social work practice board at Patuxent. Additional sections describe the role of educational services, the role of custody, the maintenance department, the food service department, medical services, and the volunteer services program. Further sections discuss guidelines related to research, inservice training for staff, and intern training. Sections on procedures and treatment explain intake, the treatment model, inmate classification and movement, the graded tier system in the treatment program, inmate privileges such as visits and telephone calls, and methods of preparing for reentry into the community.
