Abstract
Highlights from his statistical bulletin include the following: as of September 30, 2011, there were 136,261 police officers in England and Wales; 2,610 officers were part of the British Transport Police in England and Wales; the number of police officers in both England and Wales decreased by 4.2 percent from 2010, and the number of police staff persons decreased by 11.3 percent from September 2010; in the 43 English and Welsh police forces, there were 15,469 full-time equivalent Police Community Support Officers as of September 30, 2011, a decrease of 5.5 percent from September 2010; and as of September 30, 2011, there were 19,366 special constables in the 43 forces in England and Wales, a decrease of 15.5 percent from September 2010. This statistical bulletin from the Home Office in the United Kingdom presents data on the strength of police services and police personnel in England and Wales as of September 30, 2011. The bulletin is a mid-year update of the annual police service strength bulletin that reports on the numbers of officers and staff located at the 43 police forces in England and Wales.
