Abstract
Highlights from his statistical bulletin include the following: as of September 30, 2011, there were 136,261 police officers in England and Wales; 2,610 officers were part of the British Transport Police in England and Wales; the number of police officers in both England and Wales decreased by 4.2 percent from 2010, and the number of police staff persons decreased by 11.3 percent from September 2010; in the 43 English and Welsh police forces, there were 15,469 full-time equivalent Police Community Support Officers as of September 30, 2011, a decrease of 5.5 percent from September 2010; and as of September 30, 2011, there were 19,366 special constables in the 43 forces in England and Wales, a decrease of 15.5 percent from September 2010.
