The Toledo (Ohio) Police Division provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that helps officers confront the wide range of problems they encounter in today's society.
Abstract
Problems involving illness, substance abuse, marital and family relations, or legal issues can negatively affect an officer's job performance. These problems can be successfully treated provided they are identified and the officer is referred to the appropriate area of care. The Toledo Police Division's EAP policy encourages officers to voluntarily seek information concerning available programs and provides for referrals through constructive intervention. Participants in EAP will not jeopardize their job security or promotional opportunities, but, on the other hand, will be expected to meet existing job performance standards. All EAP records will be kept strictly confidential. This policy handbook includes specifications for EAP bid, job description for an employee assistance officer, and other relevant documents.
