This Guidebook was developed to provide instruction in how frontline staff should implement the Polyvictimization Assessment Tool (Tool), which enables those who serve victims of intimate partner violence (IPV) to expand services, education, and advocacy for survivors of multiple types of trauma.
Abstract
Staff who use this Guidebook should have already received comprehensive training on the basics of polyvictimization, Hope theory, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), and the importance of holistic trauma-informed services. Instructions on using the Tool address completing the Tool for issues related to events and symptoms, practice scenarios for events and symptoms, confidentiality and information-sharing considerations, ethical and practice issues, and grounding techniques. Regarding interaction with victims to whom the Tool is administered, the Guidebook focuses on building rapport, increasing well-being, principles of strengths-based practice, and tips on approaching wellness and safety with survivors. A flow chart is provided on trauma-informed actions. The Guidebook also contains resources that can be provided to survivors who seek additional psycho-education, healing modalities, and strategies for mitigating the effects of trauma and coping with adverse symptomatology. An appendix contains resources that can be given to survivors.
