A GENERAL ANALYSIS OF POPULATION VARIATIONS FOR THE PRISONER AND PATIENT POPULATIONS AT MCI-BRIDGEWATER, WITH SPECIFIC BREAKDOWNS FOR THE DISTINCT TREATMENT UNITS.
Abstract
THE RESIDENT POPULATION OF BRIDGEWATER IS COMPRISED OF TWO VERY DISTINCT GROUPS - PATIENTS CONFINED AS A RESULT OF CIVIL OR VOLUNTARY COMMITMENTS, AND SENTENCED OFFENDERS IN THE CUSTODY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS WHO HAVE BEEN TRANSFERRED FROM OTHER FACILITIES FOR A VARIETY OF PURPOSES SUCH AS TO OBTAIN SPECIALIZED MEDICAL OR PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES. TWO TYPES OF DATA WERE UTILIZED IN THIS ANALYSIS. THE AVERAGE DAILY POPULATION OF BRIDGEWATER AND ITS SPECIALIZED UNITS WAS DETERMINED FROM A REVIEW OF THE WEEKLY POPULATION COUNTS, AND THE TOTAL NUMBER OF YEARLY ADMISSIONS TO BRIDGEWATER WAS OBTAINED FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS STATISTICAL REPORTS FOR THE YEARS 1969 THROUGH 1971. ADMISSION DATA FOR 1972 THROUGH 1974 WAS OBTAINED FROM THE ADMISSION-RELEASE FORMS. THE STATISTICS SHOW A GENERAL POPULATION DECLINE OVER THE PAST FIVE YEARS. POPULATION INFORMATION IS PROVIDED FOR THE GENERAL POPULATION, PRISONERS, THE DRUNKENNESS COMMITMENT POPULATION, THE TRANSFER POPULATION, PATIENTS, THE STATE HOSPITAL UNIT, DEFECTIVE DELINQUENT UNIT, THE ADDICTION CENTER, ALCOHOLIC POPULATION, DRUG DEPENDENT POPULATION AND POPULATION OF THE TREATMENT CENTER FOR SEXUALLY DEVIANT OFFENDERS.
