This report presents an overview of the management and features of Alabama's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP).
Abstract
Alabama's PDMP is managed by the state's Department of Public Health. Information is provided on this agency's contacts. The report provides data on the state's population, number of pharmacies in the state, number of practitioners/prescribers, number of prescription records collected in 2011, the frequency of data collection, and the number of patient history reports in 2011. Alabama's PDMP collects data from pharmacies and from dispensing practitioners. Drugs in Schedules II, III, IV, and V are monitored under the PDMP. Those who may request patient information are prescribers, pharmacists, pharmacies, law enforcement officials, and licensing boards, but not patients. Sources of information on legislation that pertains to Alabama's PDMP are provided. Access is provided to Alabama's PDMP website.
