This directory provides information on systems and staff of the majority of municipal, county, State, and Federal probation and parole departments, along with data on salaries, budgets, and client caseloads, as well as a comprehensive glossary of related terms from the field.
Abstract
The information is updated to February 1992, based upon responses to a questionnaire mailed to approximately 1,600 probation and parole offices in the United States. Almost 700 questionnaires were returned. The information provided pertains to parole, pardon, or release boards; State and county administration of field parole, probation, and aftercare services (county, district, area, or regional offices); State court administrators' addresses and phone numbers; and independent county or city/municipal probation, parole, or aftercare offices. Each listing identifies parent agency when applicable; chief administrator, probation, and parole officials; interstate compact contact; general information phone number; record information check phone number; public information officer; programs and services provided; expenditures for services, amount of fees, and restitution collected; beginning salaries for probation and parole personnel; number of personnel; and client caseloads assigned, discharged, under supervision, and average caseload per officer. Aggregate information is provided on probation and parole officers' beginning salaries, officer training and educational requirements, peace officer status, mandated use of firearms, workload budgeting, sentencing or parole guidelines, services or programs provided, and diversion and job development programs.
