The Maryland State's Attorneys Association (MSAA) reports on the implementation of the Prosecutors Training Coordinator project to LEAA.
Abstract
MSAA has experienced a great deal of activity in publications, with its greatest achievement being 'The Maryland Prosecutor,' the only weekly two-page publication of its kind in the U.S.. This newsletter is issued to each of Maryland's 24 State's Attorney's Offices, numerous Association members, and persons outside of Maryland. The newsletter is used to disseminate criminal law decisions from the Supreme Court of the United States, the Court of Special Appeals of Maryland; it also contains notes and reminders about prosecution activities and training programs throughout the State and nation. MSAA distributes on occasion recent Supreme Court decisions as interpreted by the Associate Dean of the Georgetown Law School, William W. Greenhalgh, and a publication by the C & P Telephone Company of Maryland which explains applicable laws annd citations regarding cases involving telephone credit calls and third number billing fraud and the use of electronic devices to conceal the origin or destination of a telephone call or to avoid payment for the call. MSAA has also issued publications related to obscenity cases and a four-volume prosecutor's manual. Seminars have been presented in discussion and panelist form and evening clases for prosecutors have been held at the University of Baltimore Law School. With regard to research and assistance, MSAA has provided to the local prosecutor information on the drafting of indictments and some technical advice on the methods used in the handling of involved cases. Finally, a library has been established under the cassette method of information on national drug seminars. Seminar lecturers and guest speakers and their topics for discussion are mentioned.
