This report presents standards which describe the quality assurance requirements that laboratories performing forensic DNA testing or utilizing the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) must follow to ensure the quality and integrity of data generated by the laboratory.
Abstract
The report begins with definitions of terminology used within the standards with the intent to better understand and clarify terminology meaning. Definitions are followed with quality assurance standards developed placing specific requirements on forensic DNA testing laboratories. Standards are presented in the areas of the quality assurance program, organization and management, personnel, facilities, evidence control, validation, analytical procedures, equipment calibration and maintenance, reports, review, proficiency testing, correction action, audits, safety, and outsourcing. These standards describe the quality assurance requirements that laboratories performing forensic DNA testing or utilizing the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) shall follow to ensure the quality and integrity of the data generated by the laboratory. These standards are effective July 1, 2009.
