One of two major grant programs administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), the State and Local Assistance for Narcotics Control Program (Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1986) provides subsidies to State and local criminal justice agencies to fund programs which improve the apprehension, prosecution, adjudication, detention, and rehabilitation of drug offenders.
Abstract
In a question and answer format taken from actual questions received by the BJA, the implementation and administration of the program is described. The purpose areas of the Formula Grant Program are outlined followed by an explanation of the guidelines available. Fund allocation, administration of the program, State application procedures, the matching requirement, and reporting procedures are covered. Similar issues relating to the Discretionary Grant Program are also described.
