This CD-ROM presents publications designed to instruct and inform Weed and Seed sites about ways to improve the planning, development, and operation of their programs, as well as the resources available to them from the U.S. Justice Department's Executive Office of Weed and Seed (EOWS).
Abstract
Recent in-site newsletters from various Weed and Seed sites are provided to acquaint other Weed and Seed sites about what other programs are doing. This is followed by a publication on Weed and Seed best practices. This publication profiles exemplary efforts of specific Weed and Seed sites in the development and implementation of effective strategies for achieving Weed and Seed goals of controlling and reducing violent crime, drug abuse, and gang activity in designated high-crime neighborhoods. Another publication suggests ways in which Weed and Seed programs can use school facilities as a convenient and inexpensive place to conduct group activities that bond neighbors to one another. Also included is a fiscal year 1999 program guide and application kit for a Weed and Seed project. Another presentation focuses on the kinds of data Weed and Seed sites must collect and maintain to comply with the Government Performance and Results Act. A presentation on factors in successful programs is designed to help specific communities plan, design, and implement a successful prevention program. Other sections of the CD-ROM address strategic planning and proposal writing, steps for marketing a Weed and Seed strategy, the 1999 Technical Assistance Guide, and the National Evaluation of Weed and Seed Cross-Site Analysis.
