PRESENTS A CORRECTIONS MODEL EMPHASIZING REHABILITATION THROUGH COMMUNITY-BASED, INDIVIDUALIZED TREATMENT WITHIN REASONABLE CONTROLS FOR BEHAVIOR THREATENING TO LIFE, PROPERTY AND BASIC SOCIAL ORDER.
Abstract
IT IS HELD THAT THE DEFICIENCES OF OFFENDERS THAT STIMULATE ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR CAN BE RESHAPED AND DIRECTED INTO PRO-SOCIAL PATTERNS. RECONDITIONING FOR AN ACCEPTABLE LIFE STYLE IN SOCIETY IS BELIEVED BEST ACCOMPLISHED IN ASSOCIATION WITH STAFF, VOLUNTEERS, AND COMMUNITY AGENCIES THAT WILL PHASE THE OFFENDER INTO ACCEPTABLE VOCATIONAL AND SOCIAL BEHAVIOR AS REHABILITATION OCCURS. EMPHASIS IS PLACED UPON THE COORDINATION OF ALL ELEMENTS OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM TO EFFECTIVELY GUIDE OFFENDERS INTO TREATMENT PROGRAMS THAT BEST MATCH EACH INDIVIDUAL'S SET OF NEEDS AND CONTROL REQUIREMENTS. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE PRESENTED FOR MOVING THE EXISTING SYSTEM CLOSER TO THE IDEAL.
