Annotation
Data are presented from a survey of South Dakota law enforcement agencies on salaries and fringe benefits during 1977. Information can be used in police bargaining, in recruiting, as a source of information, or as an opportunity to examine salaries in the context of the whole fringe benefits package.
Abstract
The information applies to sworn officers and covers salaries, several forms of extra compensation such as overtime pay, different types of paid days off, various kinds of insurance, retirement plans, policies for furnishing uniforms and equipment, and educational incentives. Data are shown by city and for both parttime and fulltime officers. The report also presents information on salaries and benefits in other States, on Federal benefits to law enforcement officers, on the Law Enforcement Education Program, and on insurance available through the National Sheriffs' Association. It lists selected statutory references to salaries and fringe benefits and outlines standards adopted by the State's police task force on salaries and fringe benefits. Numerous tables are supplied.
