A PROGRESS REPORT OF SPECIAL PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES TO REDUCE THE OCCURRENCE OF BURGLARY.
Abstract
THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS PROJECT ARE TO DECREASE THE NUMBER OF BURGLARIES EXPECTED TO OCCUR IN THE GRANT AREA DURING THE PROJECT YEAR BY FOUR PERCENT AND TO DECREASE THE NUMBER OF BURGLARIES ANTICIPATED FOR THE ENTIRE CITY OF SAN JOSE FOR THIS PERIOD BY TWO PERCENT. A THIRD OBJECTIVE IS TO IMPROVE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TO REDUCE BURGLARIES THROUGHOUT SAN JOSE IN SUBSEQUENT YEARS. SUMMARIES ARE PRESENTED FOR ACTIVITIES DURING THIS REPORT PERIOD. ACTIVITIES REPORTED IN THE AREA OF PREVENTION AND APPREHENSION INCLUDE OPERATION ID (PLACING IDENTIFICATION ON PERSONAL PROPERTY) AND OPERATION INTERVIEW (GATHERING STATISTICAL DATA ON TARGET AREA RESIDENTS). EFFORTS IN THE BURGLARY REDUCTION PROCESS INCLUDE A TECHNICAL SUPPORT PROPOSAL AND IMPROVED REPORTING. COMMENTS ARE MADE ON OPERATION FENCE, A LAW ENFORCEMENT EFFORT TO LIMIT AND CONTROL THE MARKETS FOR STOLEN PROPERTY THROUGH APPREHENSION AND PROSECUTION OF VIOLATORS. A DISCUSSION OF PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED AND ANTICIPATED ACHIEVEMENTS FOR NEXT YEAR ARE INCLUDED.
